Ectopic pregnancy

Ectopic pregnancy is also known as tubal pregnancy. It is a complication of pregnancy in which the fertilized egg develops within one of the fallopian tube and known as the number one cause of death of women in the first trimester of pregnancy.

OTHER FORMS OF ECTOPIC PREGNANCY:

  •  Bbdominal
  •  Ovarian
  •  Cornual
  •  Cervical

 CAUSES:

  • Infection in the pelvis
  • Previous ectopic pregnancy
  • Past surgery of the fallopian tubes
  • Previous surgery in the pelvic or abdomen
  • Endometriosis

SYMPTOMS:

  • Severe pelvis or abdominal pain
  • Nausea
  • Abnormal vaginal bleeding
  • Dizziness
  • Shoulder or neck pain
  • Mild cramping on the pelvis area

There are two ways to treat ectopic pregnancy, first is the chemical treatment in which the patient will be given methotrexate to dissolve pregnancy without harming any of your organs, the second treatment is surgical. There are two approaches to surgery, laparoscopy and laparotomy. The surgery will depend on your pregnancy status and if your fallopian tube is damaged fully or not.
