Organizing your Thoughts and Ideas

Choosing the right subject matter is just one the hurdles that a writer needs to overcome. You have found your subject matter and now have a lot of ideas and thoughts regarding the topic. What will follow suit? Whether you are writing an essay or a school paper, there are always three parts to it; the beginning (Introduction), the middle (Body) and the end (Conclusion).

  • Introduction – it should contain the idea of the topic, this will prepare the reader on what he should expect from reading the whole essay or article. This will also answer the question of what the purpose of the essay or article is for; Will it narrate, inform, create an argument or point for discussion?
  • Body – this contains paragraphs that will narrate, discuss or provide ideas regarding the main subject matter or topic. The paragraphs must be fluid that it will flow from one unto the next in a logical manner.
  • Conclusion – brings the essay to an end. Gives your essay a proper closing.

The key to good writing is the preparation and organization of all of your ideas. The success of a good essay is dependent on a well thought out and planned structure. The subject matter is not relevant if all you have is a jumble of ideas and thoughts on paper.
