Caring For A Sick Toddler

Tending a sick kid is not easy. My son has colds since last week and then I got mine just yesterday. It’s very hard to wake up in the middle of the night to take care of him if he cannot sleep due to his colds when I am also sick. I wanna sleep more but I just can’t because I know Elijah is not feeling well.

My son doesn’t like medicines of any kind, be it liquid or tablet. When he is sick I do not bring him to a doctor because I know he will not take any of the prescribed medicines. What I do is I give him plenty of water/liquid throughout the day, I also bring water in the bed side so he can drink enough water before we sleep and when he wakes up in the middle of the night. I also cook soup or stew to make him feel better. We all know what soup can do to help a sick person. As much as possible I want him to stay out of sweet food such as gummy bears and doughnuts as much as possible. We have to sleep every afternoon and try to sleep very early at night.

When he’s sick, I have to give everything he wants so he won’t be cranky. Being sick is not cool and just like us adults, kids also feel what we feel when we are sick.

  1. Its really hard to see a kid being sick. It feels like you’ll just give in to all his demands just to make things easier for them. I hope you’re both fine now.

  2. that is true! its tough to take care sick kids. especially infants and toddlers. my little one here if he get sick, he wants mommy all the time. i cant do anything until he fell asleep because he wants me to snuggle him all the time. and of course as parents, it worries and stresses us so much when they get sick because we’ll never really know what they got and we hope that it will go away the next day.
i hope your kido feels better now. its also tough when the mommy is sick.

  3. It is true if kids get sick moms will always take care of them. Not that easy and good enough likes to take medicine unlike myself hates medicine…Water is good to give when there is a cold it will help…

  4. When our kids are not feeling well, we (parents) also feel bad at the same time. If we can just get their pain just to feel them better we’ll going to do it just for them. That shows our love to our kids.

  5. I worry a lot when someone gets sick in the family. When my toddler had cough and colds few months ago, I stayed and slept with her in her room every night. I won’t be able to sleep in my own bed in that situation.

  6. Aaawwww poor kid. hope he gets better soon. Don’t be afraid giving him medication if that’s the only thing that will make him feel better, we know better than our kids and we are doing it for their own sake. We don’t want to see them suffer from any kind of illnesses. If forcing him to take the meds would be the last option, so be it. Well, hope he gets better soon.

  7. I hope that your son feels much better today. and I do hope that you get to feel better too. When Mommy is sick no one is happy. My 2 girls ages 5 and 7 just got over a stomach flu this weekend and it was hard for me, since 2 of them were so clingy and they wanted everything to be handed to them while watching TV in their room and such 🙂 Take care.

  8. The hardest part of having a sick kid is seeing them suffer and uncomfortable. I hate having colds too, especially when clogged nose attacks! I can just imagine how hassle and difficult it is to kids. Try chewable tablets for kids if you can find one. I hope your little one gets better soon.
