September: A Month To Remember

September, a bittersweet month for all of us. Many are celebrating their birthdays but one has to leave and rest.

Elijah’s birthday was September 1st. It was fun and fulfilling. He received the toys he wanted and shared the blessings to each and everyone who attended his party. It was a blast.

My two nieces celebrated their first birthday at the second week of this month. We didn’t have the chance to go because my Mamala (grandmother) was confined in Jesus of Nazareth Hospital (located near us) and we have to look after her.

It was September 8 (Monday) when my Mamala was confined. She was having difficulty in breathing and some major health problems. She was doing good. She was fine. We were even so sure that after that week, she will be out and staying with me to stay away from stress. It was hard seeing your own grandmother battling with health problems. It was hard seeing her in a condition where in you can do nothing but say a prayer and hope that everything is going to be alright. She knew that it may be her last week but Mamala was still fighting and wanting to feel good because my cousins need her.

From London, Hongkong, Davao and Agusan Del Norte, all my aunts went home to see her because the doctor already told us that she (Mamala) cannot make it. It was like a family reunion, we were complete and we were one.

Mamala was a very good mother, sister, grandmother, best friend and neighbor. You can see it with how people were treating her and how famous she was in our neighborhood. Every kid who passed her by was showing respect through pagmamano. Everyone knew her for being kind and giving.

Mamala, thank you for being a good example to all of us. You may not be a perfect person but what you’ve shown us was enough to let us know that we are very fortunate to have a granmother like you who was willing to give and share whatever you had. Thank you for the love. Thank you for your time. Thank you for your unending support to all of us.
