I got stretch marks around my tummy when I was pregnant. They told me not to scratch when it’s itchy because it will result to stretch marks but I can’t help it. It’s alright to have it in my tummy since I am not wearing swimsuits. I am proud to have tiger stripes on my tummy because it only proves that I was able to nurture a child inside me. Not everyone can have the chance to be pregnant and stretchmarks serve as our trophy. How cool is that?

I take Depo Provera(DMPA) a month before Elijah turned one and still using it until now because I am not religious when it comes to taking of pills. I might forget about taking pills everyday so DMPA works best for me. Since then, I always gain weight from 3-4 kilos every three months. I was 55 kilos last November 2011 and will check my new weight next month. I wonder how much kilo do I gain after celebrating holiday. I am getting bigger each day and tiger stripes are getting visible in my legs, I can’t even wear shorts.

This weight gain happened because I let it. I eat a lot and never thought of getting this big so I have to pay for it. If I want to use skirts or shorts, maybe wearing boots can hide the stretchmarks. I’ll borrow my sister’s cowgirl boots the next time I am going to town.

I gave birth two years ago thru ceasarean section and still undergo labor from 8 pm to 5 am. I know from the very start that I can’t give normal birth, I am afraid and unsure of what will happen to me. Yes. I thought about myself and the pain I will receive after giving birth, never thought about the bills we have to pay. I am so selfish but what can I do? I just can’t undergo normal birth.

Even today, when I am watching movies or television series that shows a pregnant women, I can’t help but push also. I can feel their pain especially if they don’t have any anesthesia. Lucky for me that I didn’t push so hard on my delivery but I suffer a lot after that. I have to walk even if my stitches really hurts.

The feeling of giving birth is something that us mothers should be proud of. Not all women can have the chance to be pregnant. Not all of us can experience it. We may have different levels of pain depending on where, how we give birth but it’s all the same. Kudos to those who didn’t use anesthesia and tried giving birth normally.

In China, Boys are much precious than girls that is why most of them wants to have a male heir since a family can only have one child due to population policy.

But an incident of disposing a baby in China last October 26 shocked us all. A hospital medical team mistakenly disposed a live baby boy. According to the report, Liu Dongmei who is pregnant for 8 months was rushed to the hospital and gave an emergency birth to a baby girl. The baby was not crying nor breathing so they dispose the baby without following proper hospital procedures. The child was inside a plastic when found that he is still alive. The baby was a boy but the family has been told that it was a girl. The newborn’s hands and feet were moving, air bubbles were coming out of his mouth according to Liu’s sister-in-law. Good thing the baby was rushed to an intensive care unit right away.

Medical exams are used to keep track of your health. It is also a great way to keep a healthy lifestyle. Here I have the lists of medical exams every woman should have.

Cholesterol screening
We need to care about cholesterol levels, because they may to rise after menopause. This test uses electrophoresis to differentiate between the different types of lipids. Start taking this test at 20 years of age.

Bone density test
Women are prone to osteoporosis and this happens as a result of low estrogen levels after menopause. This test uses specialized X-ray called a dual-energy X-ray that screens your spine, hips, and wrists. Start taking this test at 65 years of age.

Vitamin D test
Doctors found out that vitamin D helps maintain strong bones and protect against cancer. Must start having this test at age 40 because as we age it is more likely that we will have insufficient vitamin D due to less efficiency in synthesizing vitamin D from the sun.

Blood pressure check
High blood pressure can cause heart failure, blindness and kidney disease. Women of all ages should check their blood pressure every year because after 40 years of age are more prone to high blood pressure.

Mammogram
It is used to detect early signs of breast cancer. Breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is one of the alternatives for mammogram.

Physical breast exam
Experts endorse a physical breast exam at home after menstruation. It is recommended for women ages 20 to 30. Used to observe possible signs of breast cancer.

Pap Mear
Done by gynecologists to detect deadly forms of cancer. The test remains an effective, widely used method for early detection of pre-cancer and cervical cancer.

Thyroid test
Women are at higher risk for most types of thyroid disease, probably because of hormonal factors. The Thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) test, is a blood test that measures the level of thyroid-stimulating hormone.

Vision screening
Women are at a higher risk of developing age-related macular degeneration, one of the most common eye health problems.

We should have a regular medical examinations even if we are in good health to assess the risk of medical problems in the future.

Bacillus Calmette Guerin or also known as BCG vaccine is given right after the baby is born. It is a single shot of injection in upper left arm, used against tuberculosis. After the vaccination, a red spot will emerge within three to six weeks. This vaccine is made from a live weakened bacterium related to tuberculosis bacteria.

Hepatitis B is a three-dose series of injection recommended for infants after birth up to eighteen years of age. It is given in the thigh muscle. It is developed in 1982 to prevent the Hepatitis B virus infection.

Elijah had his BCG and Hepa B vaccine right after he was born. I am not aware of it because I was sleeping, they just told me when I woke up. His second shot of Hepa B vaccine was October 14, 2009, third third was December 9, 2009.

I just came back home after going to the health center. I am supposed to have my fourth dose of my tetanus toxoid but the attendant told me that it is not necessary since I am not pregnant. I can have my next dose if ever I get pregnant again.

I can’t seem to find any article about the fourth dose of Tetanus Toxoid. I want to ask the attendant why she didn’t gave me a vaccine if she told me last November to go back there and have my fourth dose. I don’t understand her. I want to ask but she’ll just annoy me infront of other people there so I go back here without nothing anything. Hay!

The first shot was given to me on my 7th month being pregnant, June 9, 2009. The second was on July 9, 2009. The third dose was when Elijah is four months already, January 26, 2010.

It is an injection into the upper arm muscle or thigh given only by health care professionals. It is given to prevent Tetanus (lockjaw), a life threatening bacterial disease, to you and your baby.
