Eczema

Eczema is also known as Atopic Dermatitis. A child with eczema has rough, dry and itchy skin. It usually appears before the age of 5. It is said to be not contagious so there is nothing to worry about. It occurs mainly on scalp, forehead, cheeks and joints of arms and legs.

Heredity is a big factor why babies get eczema also when a family member has eczema, asthma and hayfever. There is no specific treatment for this but there are remedies that may help to improve your baby’s skin condition.

Keep your baby skin moisturized to help reduce discomfort. Applying emollients for children of all ages can help a lot. Choose cotton materials for the baby’s clothes because it will allow skin to breathe and stay cool. Switch to mild and hypo-allergenic detergent and bath soaps.

Do not let your child be exposed on rapid changes of temperature because it will only trigger the eczema.
