I was the one taking care of my younger sister during her school years. Our mom and her dad were working in Bulacan and Manila, and I understood why they left Lexene with me—they had to cover our bills and her tuition fees. From August to November, if I remember correctly, it was just Lexene, Elijah, and me at home. I had to prepare our meals, wash the dishes, cook, do the laundry, and handle all the chores. Lexene didn’t have school service back then, so Elijah and I had to take her to school before 8 in the morning and wait for her at the subdivision gate at 3 PM. It was tough.
There were days when we didn’t even have enough money. Lexene had to skip classes because we couldn’t afford the fare. Then, a typhoon hit us last year. We had no electricity and no way to communicate with mom or any of our relatives. We were so scared, but I had to stay strong for the three of us.
Lexene is living with our mom, and I miss her terribly. We used to fight a lot over silly things, and I know that wasn’t right. I hope she comes back sooner than she promised. She’s not online as often and is probably busy with her new school and friends.
Lex, we are missing you already. 🙁
