Easy ways to add value to your home

pinaymama · October 27, 2015 · 1 Comment

Whether you are planning to sell your house in the short term or simply want to know that you are adding value for the future, there are plenty of simple ways to improve both the interior and exterior of your property, many of which will not send your budget spiraling out of control.

Ways to add value to your interior

There are lots of small ways you can add value to your home, starting with small changes such as switching to energy efficient lightbulbs and filling any small holes in the wall, replacing worn rugs, and fixing broken items.

If you want to spend a bit more, the kitchen and bathroom are two rooms where small changes can make a big difference. Think about investing in new stylish faucets or lighting, and give your cabinets a makeover by adding new doors or painting the existing fronts.

A fresh coat of paint can add a new vibrancy to a house, but, if you are planning to sell in the near future, consider sticking with neutral colors that offer an easy starting point for potential new owners to make their mark. If you do want to add flair, stick to one feature wall or use accessories to add color.

Ways to add value to the exterior

The outside of your house is one of the first things people see when they come to your home, but it is often one of the last areas to be dealt with because many of the jobs seem like hard work.

There are some simple things you can do to spruce up the exterior, although, for some, you may need professional help. One thing you may need to enlist a professional tradesman for is a garage door repair at your Mississauga property. If your door is dented, not rising properly, or in need of a fresh paint job, then it may be detracting from the value of your home. Attending to these simple repairs can make all the difference to your property’s curb appeal.

While you are outside, have a look at your garden and identify some easy landscaping options that could make your plot look more attractive. Add some easy-care plants for added interest, and make sure your lawn and paved areas are tidy.

You might also want to give your front door and window frames a good clean or a lick of paint to complete the look.

Don’t forget to budget

If you are planning to fix a number of issues at the same time, think in advance about which things you will need professional help with, such as garage door repair, and what you might be able to do yourself. This way, you can budget more for some areas and look to save money by recycling items or doing work yourself in other places.

These simple changes will give your house a fresh new look and extend its lifespan, so make your to-do list today and get your home renovations started.
